Ventilation in retail shops
In a shop or supermarket, there are many different people visiting every day. Good ventilation is therefore important for the air quality and the well-being of staff and customers. With the right ventilation, you can prevent the adverse effects of, for example
- Dusty spaces;
- Harmful substances and gases;
- Too hot air on hot days.
In both small and large shops and in the warehouse, oxygen and a fresh air flow can therefore not be lacking. Contact us for advice, order directly or request a quotation.

How do you ensure sufficient ventilation in a shop?
In shops or warehouses where many people come, optimal ventilation is important. Dust, moisture, gases or other harmful vapours can occur in these areas. Natural ventilation is not always possible or efficient enough. Therefore, mechanical ventilation is necessary for a healthy shopping climate. A ventilation system is used to remove contaminated air and supply fresh air from outside.
Ventilation requirements for the retail industry
The prescribed standard for the ventilation flow rate for shop premises has been increased from 0.75 L/s-m2 to 1.5 L/s-m2 at basement and street levels. The increase is a result of the committee's assessment of the strength of pollutant sources in retail spaces. We recommend at least a complete air change 1x per hour.
Ventilation in a supermarket
Ventilation in a supermarket is a more complex job because it requires strict humidity control. To prevent ice from forming in the display cabinets and to keep the shop temperature pleasant, a heat recovery unit is recommended. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are happy to help you!
Ventilation of a warehouse
A warehouse in a shop or supermarket always needs a sufficient fresh air flow, especially if a lot of people work there. CO2 levels can rise quickly here. Using a mechanical ventilation system or a WTW unit, you can ensure healthy indoor air in a warehouse. For the ventilation of a warehouse the same rules apply as for the rest of the building.

Frequently asked questions about retail ventilation
Shops and other indoor spaces should have an ventilation flow rate of 1.5 L/s-m2 and the air must be completely refreshed at least once per hour.
It is not always possible to ventilate the surface area of a shop using natural ventilation. Therefore we recommend mechanical ventilation by means of a ventilation system or heat recovery unit.
To ventilate a warehouse the same requirements apply as in a shop. Therefore you should ventilate it in the same way with a mechanical ventilation box or MVHR unit.
