Marine ventilation categories
Ventilating a boat or ship
The technical areas of ships need to be properly ventilated, but kitchens and toilet areas on board also need to be properly ventilated. Moisture, gases or other harmful substances can occur in these areas. Ventilation tubes and ducts are important to get the fresh air into the right rooms. Ventilation grills are placed to close off ventilation channels or to provide natural ventilation on board.
Watertight ventilation of ships
Ventilation grilles on board should not be placed too close to water because water is harmful to the fans and machinery. There is, however, a way to ventilate as watertight as possible on a ship. With water repelling stainless steel ventilation grids rust is prevented. By placing special drop catchers behind the ventilation grills, water drops are caught and not sucked in by the fan.
Engine room ventilation
In a container ship or on large cargo ships there are technical areas and machine rooms where temperatures can rise because of the engines. Dangerous gases and substances can also be suspended in the air in these rooms. In order to improve the air quality and meet the temperature requirements, it is important that these areas are properly ventilated. This can be done, for example, by using an air handling unit with a cooler.
Marine ventilation without power
Is there no power source on board or do you prefer to ventilate without power? Then a wind-driven fan can be the solution for ventilating your boat. In fresh water, wind-driven fans can easily be used. However, for boating on salt water we do not recommend this. Because of the salty air, other materials are needed. For more information and advice please contact us, we are happy to help.
Boat ventilation in the winter
In the winter months many boats are stored in a garage. Yet it is important to keep ventilating. Otherwise the air inside will become damp and mold and unpleasant odors can develop. Mold is not only bad for your health, but also for the boat. The best way to prevent mold is to install vents in doors and hatches so air can circulate continuously.
