Why an air purifier? 5 reasons to install an air purifier
We are increasingly aware of the air we are in, partly because of corona. Fresh and clean air is extremely important for your health and well-being, among other things. Indoor air quality is many times worse than outdoors and therefore it is important to know what you can do about it. Air cleaners are effective in improving our living environment.
How does an air purifier work?
Air purifiers are devices that draw in air, filter out pollutants such as (fine) dust, pollen, germs and even odors, and blow out clean air. So the filtration in the air purifier does all the "dirty" work. In addition to certain types of filters, an air purifier can also use ionization, bipolar ionization or UV light to purify air. You can read more about ionization and frequently asked questions about air purifiers in this blog.
What is an air purifier good for?
An air purifier improves indoor air quality and purifies indoor air. It does not replace good ventilation, but complements it. Ventilation provides fresh, oxygen-rich air. An air purifier eliminates 99% of "dirty" substances from the air such as bacteria and pollen. An air purifier also relieves allergies such as hay fever and asthma.
You can place an air purifier at home, but also in the office or at school for example. The AIR8 air purifiers are available in various sizes. The AIR8 260i NANO and 280 NANO are perfect for spaces up to 30 m2 such as a bedroom or living room but also for a meeting room or a waiting room of a doctor or physiotherapy practice. The 720i EDGE has a range for rooms up to 80 m2. These are very suitable for an auditorium or a small office space. The 1200i PRO is suitable for larger spaces and filters the air in rooms up to 100 m2.
What do you need to consider when buying an air purifier?
Where to place air purifier?
Place your air purifier in the room where you are most often, such as the living room and bedroom. Place the air cleaner as centrally as possible, of course it doesn't have to be in the way, but make sure it's not in the corner of the room or behind furniture. In any case, keep at least 20 cm free around it. In this way, the air purifier can suck in air properly and blow clean air back where it is needed.
Which filter eliminates which substances?
The air purifiers we sell contain 1 or more types of filters named below:
- Prefiltration: This is a protective layer for a long-life HEPA filter. Pre-filtration removes larger particles such as hair, dust and pollen from the air.
- Carbon filtration: Harmful and polluting gases such as chemicals, unpleasant odors, suspended organic matter and smog are absorbed by this filter.
- HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filtration: This is a TÃœV certified medical grade filter. These filters provide 99.97% purification of fine air particles such as dust, particulate matter, dust mites, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, viruses and pollen. The coronavirus is 0.125 microns in size and the HEPA filter has been proven to capture even these smallest sized particles.
In addition, there are other techniques of filtration that our air purifiers incorporate:
- Cold catalysis - This filtration removes invisible gases such as formaldehyde, which is released from newly manufactured textiles (furniture, clothing, etc.).
- Photo catalysis - A filtration process that chemically absorbs residual pollutants, exhaust fumes and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particularly formaldehyde. This is a colorless and irritating gas used in chemical compounds, inks, textiles, plastics and building materials. The filter accelerates chemical degradation by producing built-in UV-GI light without ozone.
- UV-GI filtration - Unparalleled technology that removes 99.99% of particles. The ultraviolet light (UV-GI light) eliminates unhealthy microorganisms, viruses and bacteria. Once destroyed, these accumulated microorganisms cannot multiply and spread throughout the room with the airflow. The UV-GI lamps are safely built in and exposed only to the internal airflow, making them 100% safe and compliant with EU directives.
5 reasons why you need an air purifier:
Reason 2: You suffer from allergies and/or respiratory problems
For many people, healthy indoor air is vital. If you struggle with a dust mite allergy or have asthma or another respiratory condition, it is important that the air you breathe is clean. A good air purifier with good filtration relieves symptoms of allergies, hay fever, asthma and other respiratory complaints.
Reason 3: You have pets
As nice as pets are, they do create pollution in the home. Hair and dander are disastrous for people with allergies. Young children are especially susceptible to this. If a family member is allergic and you have pets, an air purifier with good filtration is part of the solution. This removes the harmful particles from the air.
Reason 4: The house doesn't always smell fresh
A house does not always smell fresh. Some factors can intensify this, someone smokes in the house, pets walk, the kitchen exhaust system does not work optimally . Unpleasant odors can sometimes also be harmful to your health, such as someone else's smoke. An air purifier purifies and filters indoor air. If you have visitors, the house smells fresh again!
Reason 5: Unhealthy indoor air can literally make you sick
There are many factors at play in a home that affect indoor air. Some of these can make a person sick. For example, if you have a newly built home or just finished a remodel, there may still be some gaseous substances in the air that come from building products.
One example is formaldehyde. Formaldehyde (HCHO) is a colorless gas released into the air by a variety of products in the home such as furniture, kitchens and rugs, clothing and other textiles. It can even take years for formaldehyde to be completely released by the new products in the home. An air purifier can eliminate these and other toxins from the air.
In short, there are plenty of reasons why an air purifier in your home is desirable. Especially if you have small children or a baby, it is wise to install an air purifier.
