CO2 level in a room gives indication of likelihood of corona contamination
Recent research has examined the relationship between CO2 and the spread of COVID-19 in classrooms and offices. Scientists have developed a new model to predict the risk of infection with corona. They have done this based on the amount of CO2 present there. This model highlights the importance of proper ventilation in workplaces and schools. The model was developed by researchers from Imperial College London, the University of Cambridge and the University of Leeds.
Chance of corona contamination higher at high CO2 level
The model uses the measured CO2 level and the occupancy rate of a room to predict how many people are likely to be infected by an asymptomatic but infectious colleague or fellow student. Everyone breathes out CO2. A high CO2 level means (too) many people and (too) poor ventilation in the room. The probability of corona contamination then increases. The model shows that by managing ventilation and occupancy levels in a room, we can control the risk of airborne contamination from a virus such as corona.
Good ventilation and CO2 meter of great importance
The model shows that if the occupancy of an office or classroom is halved, the risk of airborne transmission of corona is four times lower. It is also shown that most workers in well-ventilated offices and classrooms are unlikely to infect each other. When a room is poorly ventilated, this risk increases.
Proper ventilation is crucial, and so is the use of a CO2 meter. When you use a CO2 meter, you can form a good insight and understanding of the use of ventilation in different activities. For example, you can expect higher CO2 levels when there are many people present in a small room.
A solution to this problem is CO2-controlled ventilation. More fresh air is then fed into a room when the CO2 level is too high, and you don't have to look after it yourself.
Which CO2 meter against corona?
To get a good insight into the CO2 level in a room, we recommend installing a CO2 meter with a traffic light. This will easily indicate how healthy the air is with green, orange or red, allowing you to take immediate action. If you are going to buy a CO2 meter for your home, of course you want to make sure you get one that meets your needs and wishes. So which one fits that best? We at Ventilatieland have been the largest in air quality in the Netherlands for more than 20 years and are proud to call ourselves specialists. We are happy to share our knowledge about carbon dioxide and other air quality meters with you, so check out our Top 5 CO2 meters and if you have any questions afterwards, don't hesitate to contact us!
