Ventilation duct selection guide

When you want to install a new ventilation system or renovate a ventilation system, you will have to choose from various ventilation pipes. With so many different ventilation pipes on the market, we understand that this choice can be quite overwhelming. For this reason we have developed a selection guide for you, in which you can find all the advantages and disadvantages of the ventilation pipes.

  • Flexible acoustic and thermally insulated ventilation hose

    We do not recommend using flexible ventilation hoses as ventilation ducts, as this causes too much resistance. However, the use of shorter parts can be useful. For example, you can use the Sonodec acoustic ventilation hose to place on the first part of the ventlation system or in tricky corners. The air is pressed through an extra layer of fibreglass, which reduces the circular movements in the air. This creates a lower noise level of the supplied air.

    We recommend the Isodec thermally insulated ventilation hose especially when ventilating with a MVHR unit. When this hose is placed on the first part to and from the MVHR-unit, less heat will be lost and you can use the MVHR-unit more economically. In addition, this pipe can withstand temperatures of up to -30 and +140 degrees Celsius and is fire resistant.

    Spiral pipe

    A spiral pipe is used for the supply and exhaust of air. This pipe can be used for a MVHR system, mechanical ventilation and natural ventilation. The spiral pipes can be used everywhere in the house. Do you want to know how to install a spiro pipe yourself?     • Can be used in floors and ceilings.
    • Easy to install.
    • There are many fittings available for the spiro pipe. A rubber ring is pre-installed with all fittings to ensure an airtight result.
    • A lot of airflow is possible without having to turn the fan in a high position, because of the large diameter.
    • Does not rust because of the zinc layer on the pipe. When this layer is damaged, the tube can rust. Therefore, always treat a damaged pipe with zinc spray.
    • Easy to clean.
    • Combining various diameters is possible.
    Spiral duct diameter 80 mm length 1 metres - round galvanised
    • A relatively large amount of sawing work or fittings is required because the pipes are supplied as standard in 1.5m. Other sizes are available at an additional charge.
    • The pipes cannot be directly connected to each other, a connector is needed for this purpose.
    • Not insulated, when you want ventilation tubes without heat loss you can choose the thermoduct insulated spiral pipe.
    • The tubes themselves are not fire resistant, but by installing a fire damper you create a safer and fire resistant ventilation system for 60 to 120 minutes. Because of this, the fire spreads less quickly.
    • The pipes are often used in ventilation systems with multiple branches on one duct, which can cause crosstalk in the ducts. Other sound vibrations can also occur. However, this can be solved with our silencers.

    Galvanised flat ventilation duct

    A galvanised flat ventilation duct is used for the supply and removal of air. This duct can be used for a MVHR system, mechanical ventilation and natural ventilation. The ventilation ducts can be used anywhere in the house. Because of the height of 80mm the ducts are perfect to use in a lowered ceiling.

    • The duct can be poured into concrete in the floor construction, also to be used in ceilings.
    • Ducts are easy to conceal because of their rectangular shape.
    • Easy to install.
    • Various fittings are available, also for connecting to a spiral pipe.
    • Does not rust because of the zinc layer on the pipe. When this layer is damaged, the duct can rust. Always treat a damaged duct with zinc spray.
    • Easy to maintain and clean.
    Galvanised flat duct 165x80 length 1.5m
    • Relatively large amount of sawing work because the tubes are delivered in 1.5 m standard, but other sizes are also available at extra cost.
    • The pipes cannot be directly connected to each other; a connection piece is required for this.
    • The pipes are often used in ventilation systems with multiple branches on one duct, which can cause crosstalk in the ducts. Other sound vibrations may also occur.
    • The pipes themselves are not fire resistant, but by installing a fire damper you create a safer and fire resistant ventilation system for 60 to 120 minutes. This makes the fire less likely to spread.
    • Not insulated, when you want ventilation pipes without heat loss you can choose the thermoduct ventilation pipe.

    Plastic ventilation tubes and ducts

    A ventilation pipe or duct made of plastic is used to supply and extract air. We particularly recommend this tube for extracting air from a cooker hood or bathroom ventilator. This is due to the lack of fire resistance of plastic.

    • Can be used in ceilings.
    • Easy to install.
    • Various fittings are available.
    • No need for fittings to assemble pipes, these can be glued together with PVC glue.
    • Rust free.
    • Ventilation tube: Combination of various diameters is possible.
    • Ventilation duct: Ducts are easy to hide because of their rectangular shape.

    • Cannot be used to embed in floors.
    • Relatively large amount of sawing work because the pipes are delivered in 1m lengths.
    • Not insulated against heat.
    • The tubes are not fire resistant, for this we recommend the spiral pipe and galvanised flat ventilation duct .

    Vent-Axia Uniflexplus air distribution system

    Uniflexplus is a user-friendly and flexible system, available in 2 diameters. It is an airtight solution that is perfect for pouring in. This air distribution system is antistatic and antibacterial. This guarantees a healthy air quality in your ventilation. The system is best used for a MVHR system or mechanical ventilation.

    • Can be embedded in floors and also used in ceilings.
    • No fittings needed to connect pipes to distributors and valve collectors.
    • Easy to connect: 3 clicks and ready.
    • Pipes are flexible, so easy to relocate and bend.
    • The small diameter makes the tubes easy to conceal.
    • Easy to saw off thanks to the cutting blade. The cutter allows the pipes to be cut in a way that fits into the air distribution box.
    • The special design and composition of the UniflexPlus prevents pollution of the air in the system. The inside of the air distribution system is coated with an antistatic and antibacterial layer. This makes it much less likely that dirt will adhere to the tube.
    • The rounded shapes of the hoses and valve collectors, together with the direct connection between the distributors and valve collectors (without branches), ensure that the system can be easily cleaned. This keeps the ventilation system in good condition.
    • To make it complete, valves and grilles are available for the UniflexPlus system. The UniflexPlus valves connect seamlessly to the air distribution system by means of a valve collector. Moreover, the valves are very stylish and can be easily set to a specific air capacity.

    The Vasco Easyflow air distribution system is perfect for embedding. Made of high quality plastic. The system is best used for a mechanical ventilation system.

    • No fittings needed to connect ducts to each other.
    • The height of 60 mm makes the pipes easy to conceal.

    A thermoduct insulated spiral pipe is used for the supply and removal of air. This pipe is best used for a MVHR-system. The thermoduct spiral pipes can be used anywhere in the house.
