Tips on installing a residential fan

Tips on installing a residential fan
Posted on 11-5-2021 by Felix Dijkmeijer

In this blog we would like to take you through the installation of a residential fan. These tips can also be applied to installing other fans. Read the 4 general tips for installing a fan in advance to make the right choice.

What is a residential fan

A residential fan is a ventilation system that can provide your home with a constant supply of fresh air. A domestic fan is also called a ventilation system d or MVHR Unit.

How does a home extractor fan work

For optimal ventilation of a house, it is important that this is done in the right way. By installing a domestic fan, fresh air is mechanically supplied and extracted. Polluted indoor air goes outside through ventilation grilles and clean outside air is fed into the home through filters. Optionally, a ventilation system can also be equipped with a heat recuperator such as a MVHR unit, so that the heat from the exhausted indoor air is used to heat up the usually colder outdoor air. This also makes installing a residential fan or ventilation system energy efficient.

Installing a residential fan

When installing a ventilation system, it is important that you make the right choice of the ventilation system. With us, you can choose from various models of home fans that meet the highest quality standards. For heat recovery you can choose between a MVHR unit from Vent-Axia, Itho Daalderop, Orcon, Brink or Tallinn. Not sure which MVHR unit suits your needs? Decide with our MVHR units decision tool. Mounting of a residential fan

First assess whether there is enough space to place a fan. Take into account the length, width, height and depth of the extractor fan, but also any pipe and electrical connections and, in the case of a heat recovery unit, the condensate discharge. Choose how you are going to install the ventilation ducts or spiral pipes. With us you can choose from a wide range of fixings and brackets with rubber (safe connection), a normal bracket in various sizes or a hose clamp and tie wraps.

In addition to a wide range of fixing materials for ventilation pipes, we also have tapes an seals, screws and plugs that can be used universally and are indispensable for the installation of any ventilation system. We also have glue and sealants in stock.

Extraction of the air

Use insulated ventilation pipes for an optimal and correct connection. The insulated pipes prevent condensation in the supply and discharge pipes from outside. This means that no condensation can form and run into your ventilation system.

Roof ducts for flat and pitched roofs for the optimal supply and removal of air, are suitable for different types of roofs and, thanks to the design, can be fully integrated into the roof for a complete aesthetic appearance. Both the roof terminal and the wall terminal can be combined with the various heat recovery installations.

Grilles for optimal operation

For optimal operation of a residential fan, it is important that there is a continuous air flow from the outside to the inside via ventilation grilles, open doors or windows. If insufficient fresh air can enter the house if there is a mechanical fan, the air is often drawn in from the crawl space, in this space there is often moisture and mold, which is harmful to health.
